PlaygroundBlues.com: Nathan Borror's Webspace

Monday, August 27, 2007

PlaygroundBlues.com is the personal website of Nathan Borror a web designer / developer based in Kansas City. What I particularly like about PlaygroundBlues.com is the simplicity of the layout. You would say that the layout disappears really making the content to stand out! Another cool feature is the navigation tabs on the left and the way they slide in and out (probably made with a modern javascript library). To find out more about Nathan Borror's work check this link as well. Enjoy!

IKEA: Back to College

Monday, August 27, 2007

What we have here is the minisite for the new IKEA advertising campaign. The target group is obviously the new students that are going to make the big step and live on their own during their studies this year. As you can see the idea is pretty good and well materialized! Again in flash with a touch of more advanced actionscript the final result is pretty warm and cozy something I believe they wanted to succeed. There are some good furniture solutions apart from good web design!

Vikiworks™ Studio

Friday, August 24, 2007

Vikiworks™ Studio is the personal blog (Wordpress 2.2.2) of Yichi a graphic designer and specializing in User Interface Design. The current look of his blog is quite an astonishing work as you may see! The little flash part embed in the header of the page and the color combination really lifts off the layout making it to distinguish from the majority of Wordpress themes. Enjoy!

Moon Palace: Graphic designer freelance, Webdesigner, Illustrator

Thursday, August 23, 2007

moonpallace.fr is another sample of fine flash-craftmanship! As you may noticed in the upper right corner, moonpallace.fr featured as "Site of the Day" at The W-F-A and that didn't happen by accident. The use of actionscript with vector shapes resulted in what you see and you have to admit it's very eye-candy! I also liked a lot the navigation used, while the only thing that didn't enjoyed that much is the empty space that the main scene leaves pretty blank! Other than that the French guys (remember this one?) really know how to rock!

Loworks : graphic, web, typefaces, broadcast

Wednesday, August 22, 2007

Normally I should include this website to the 2nd part of Experimental Japanese flash websites, but for some strange reasons I can't finish it... Anyway here is another fine sample of Japanese flash / actionscript work concerning the web part and some really unique illustrations concerning printed work. Loworks is a Japanese based firm that deals with web design / printed works / typography & font design / broadcast. Despite the very cool look that sound looping while loading content really gets on your nerves!

I don't know what runs behind the flash interface but it works pretty well and meets the eye for good! Enter the URL of the website you want to explore and follow the results. Move your mouse over the nodes to see the screenshot while you listen to the site description from your speakers. I don't know if this is something new around the web but it really worths some of your time and attention!

Assembly 2007 | Andromeda Software Development - LifeForce Demo

Saturday, August 11, 2007

Well I know that Assembly isn't related with the web as we know it but after searching from some flash demos I ran into ASD's (Andromeda Software Development) Assembly demo called LifeForce. ASD is a Greek Assembly team that deals with Assembly demos for quite a long time. This year participated in Assembly 2007, a meeting that is being held up every year and is like an event for everyone involved with Assembly. Well this year the ASD won the contest for the best demo. It's really astonishing what they achieved! View the youtube.com video below!

Flash Development: Planetarium

Thursday, August 09, 2007

Here is another cool piece of actionscript / flash development I recently ran across. It implements physics materialized with actionscript and I have to say that the result is really interesting and useful for those that want to build a universe of their own :P The controls are very simple. Just click on the [+] symbol at the upper left corner and manipulate the universe as you like! Add, remove, edit asteroids and planets, remove / change asteroids trails etc. Be careful though... don't evoke a Bing Bang No2!

Blueprint: A CSS Framework

Tuesday, August 07, 2007

Great news for the CSS manics around the web! About 2 days ago the new version of Blueprint was released. Blueprint is a CSS "framework" that helps in designing CSS based layouts providing a grid, somethinglike a debuggin tool. The current release (Blueprint v0.3) covers the features listed below.

  1. An easily customizable grid
  2. Sensible typography
  3. A typographic baseline
  4. Perfected CSS reset
  5. A stylesheet for printing
  6. No bloat of any kind
Here is also the "to do" list:
  1. Support for PNG transparency in IE5.5+ (js)
  2. Relative font sizing everywhere
  3. Multiple versions with different grid customizations
  4. Liquid layout version
  5. Compressed versions of the files to reduce load times
As you may understand Blueprint is a very powerful CSS tool that may be useful for both professionals / experienced and novice web designers as it's pretty simple to use and can save you from some really tricky situations, allowing you to design / code with accuracy. The man behind Blueprint is this guy which probably you'd listened in the past. In order to get started follow this link to view a simple tutorial. Happy coding!

MediaMonks Games - Online advergames & in-game advertising agency

Monday, August 06, 2007

The fans of on-line flash games are gonna love this one! MediaMonks Games is a subdivision of MediaMonks with only cause of existence to make flash games for advertising purposes. What I liked was the character design and the illustrations in general that really boost the final result. The gameplay in almost every flash game is simple, funny and addictive I would say! If you have a lot of spare time to spend click the links below at your own risk!

Universe by Jonathan Harris

Saturday, August 04, 2007

If you read a couple of posts back you'll see love-lines.org and one of its creators Jonathan Harris. I looked over Jonathan Harris personal website and I discovered that the man is really a genius... Just take a look at his jobs and especially the latest on simply called "Universe". The "Universe" collects data, news and reports mostly, from daily life and represents them in an "astral" way... like those science maps back in high school. You may browse the daily updates, the weekly updates, monthly etc. You have quite many ways to choose in order to view the different parts of the "Universe". A short description taken by Jonathan's website may en light thing a little:

Universe is divided into nine "Stages", titled: Stars, Shapes, Secrets, Stories, Statements, Snapshots, Superstars, Settings, and Time. Stars presents a cryptic star field; Shapes causes constellation outlines to emerge; Secrets extracts the most salient single words and presents them to scale; Stories extracts the sagas and events; Statements extracts the things people said; Snapshots extracts images; Superstars extracts the people, places, companies, teams, and organizations; Settings shows geographical distribution; Time shows how the universe has evolved over hours, days, months, and years. In the top left corner is a search box, which can be used to specify the scope of the current universe. The scope can be as broad as "2007", as recent as "Today", as precise as "Vermont on August 27, 2006", or as open-ended as "War", "Climate Change" or "Happiness". The exact parameters of each universe are entirely up to the viewer, and unexpected paths unfold with exploration.

esj·com·au™ | 300 times better

There is nothing special about the actionscript part of this flash website but I liked the gfx part. esj·com·au™ is the portfolio of Simon Andrew James, graphic artists from Cape Town, Africa. There are some really good illustrations in there so make sure to view every single one. Enjoy!

Love-lines.org | Peace, Love, Technology

Wednesday, August 01, 2007

Love-Lines.org for today! I know that this project is a little bit old because it was released in 2006... but I thought that there might be someone that hasn't heard about it. Well, this is the project of Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar and according to them "Lovelines is an exploration of human desire.". Both Jonathan Harris and Sep Kamvar aren't any "ordinary guys"... just check their websites. When I first ran across this site I thought that was under construction or something... but later on I figured out what was going on. This project features phrases, photos about love, hate and human desire and generally data collected from blogs using the search engine that was created by We Feel Fine. This is really interesting if you think! You may swing from love to hate using the scrollbar at the bottom of the page. If you want a more detailed description of it click here. Click the thumbs bellow and remember "Peace, Love, Technology"!
